What is the function of storytelling and ritual insults in african american folk culture?

    Field hollering. Slaves would use this as a way to sing and tell storys in their native tongue so their 'masters' wouldnt beat them for singing. this is also how blue grass music was created which is now commonly known as blues or R&B.

    In Africa they would chant, sing, and dance while telling stories around big bond fires. As was done for many african generations and as tradition. this is also how a lot of their history was past down from generation to generation.
