    Music notation had some effects on music and society. I'd argue that musical notation had a pretty huge effect on the course of music history, actually.

    Music notation is like the words in the book. The words are meant to be read aloud or to yourself. The way these words are notated is sufficient for the experience. In music, text has the ability to act as the performance itself. The fact that musicians have a common short hand with these properties is endlessly significant. So there kinda like a handbook.
