The mitochondria is like an electric power plant because it is the main source of energy in a cell.
Explanation:
You must think of the cell as if it were a city. This cell is constantly active and has a lot of energy, but that energy is running out. That is why a source is needed to supply it whenever necessary. And, just as in the cities the source of energy is an electric power plant, in the cells it is the mitochondria.
What the mitochondria will use to provide energy to the cell is glucose. This glucose is transported in molecules called ATP, which are the ones that provide energy to the molecule.
The mitochondria is an organelle that is found in the cells and is responsible for providing the energy needed for cellular activity.

Answer: The ATP is then passed out of the mitochondria into the cell for use ... They convert the storage material glucose into ATP using oxygen. A bit like burning coal to generate electricity, only the energy is passed out into the cell as small packets of chemical energy rather than pumped out onto power lines.
