Gray matter is the thin and outer layer of the brain, called the cortex, which is where memories and thoughts are formed. An adolescent's brain loses gray matter, which explains their behavioral changes. They are more emotional and more intense especially in stressful situations. Adolescents also have greater ability in absorbing and retaining information, but they have poor self-control and decision-making.
