During implantation, the cytotrophoblast burrows into the endometrium. true, the cells that make up the trophoblast, at the same time, will differentiate during the second week of pregnancy in 2 layers of cells, an internal one called cytotrophoblast and an external one called syncytiotrophoblast. For the implantation to take place, the syncytiotrophoblast will be digesting the endometrium by proteolytic enzymes and will proliferate rapidly between the endometrial tissue until it reaches the interior of the uterine mucosa. In this process, the blood vessels of the endometrium will rupture and a rapid invasion by the syncytiotrophoblast will occur.
