    The Andes mountain has resulted due to the sharing of a convergent plate boundary between the Nazca plate (oceanic plate) and the South American plate (continental plate). It forms extensively the longest continental mountain ranges.

    The Nazca plate, due to its greater denser subducts below the South American, as a result of which a subduction zone is created. The downgoing plate melts at greater depth and mixes up with the magma and due to the force exerted by the convection current, the magma again rises upward. This is how the San Andes mountains have formed over millions of years.
