A vacuole is an organelle found in all plant cells and some animal and bacterial cells. They are filled with water. Large vacuoles are formed by the fusion of multiple vesicles. Plants usually have one large vacuole occupying 30-80% of the cell while in some animal cells small and numerous vacuoles can be found. Large vacuoles in plants have an important role in containing water and waste products, maintaining turgor within the cell, supporting different structures (leaves, flowers, etc.), maintaining internal pH, etc.
