Cancer is the general term for a group of diseases characterized by unregulated cell division.

The cell cycle describes the series of events that cause a cell to divide. The cell cycle is normally highly regulated by processes in the cell such that division is controlled. Cancer relates to the cell cycle because it usually begins once the processes that regulate the cell cycle stop working, allowing the cells to divide uncontrollably.
