Chloroplasts (which are always green because they contwin chlorophyll) convert Co2 and H2O into sucrose and byproduct O2 through the process of photosynthesis (creation with light energy). The resulting sugar is used as food for the plant. This is an autotrophic process. Meaning the organism produces its own food.
