    AMPK or AMP kinases are enzymes that play role in regulation of cellular energy needs and is found actively in regions which require constant energy like brain, liver. It is activated when there is an energy crisis in the cell.

    It serves to conserve energy. It enhance uptake of glucose and fatty acids for energy, it reduces pathways that require energy.

    AMPK is a threonine serine kinase and not tyrosine kinase.

    Hence,

    AMPK stimulates glucolysis by activating phosphorylation of 6-phospho-fructo-2-kinase and activating phosphorylation of glycogen phosphorylase.
