Abiotic and biotic factors determine what an environment will be like. Abiotic factors include aspects such as temperature, moisture, sunlight, elevation, and other nonliving elements that influence the organisms in that environment. Though something like temperature is living, it drastically affects how chemical reactions take place within the living cells of organisms. For example, enzymes only function well at certain temperatures. Unlike abiotic factors, biotic factors include aspects such as predators, competitive species, and symbiotic organisms - essentially the plants and animals that make up the nonliving part of the environment.
