    Cellular respiration involves the conversion of food molecules such as glucose into adenosine triphosphate or ATP, the energy currency of the cell. Respiration may take place in the presence or absence of oxygen. In the case of yeast, its anaerobic respiration is more popularly known as fermentation. Other than the ATP produced, the waste products of this fermentation process are carbon dioxide and either ethanol or lactate. On the other hand, the aerobic respiration produces water and carbon dioxide as waste products. Cellular respiration occurs in three stages: (1) glycolysis, (2) Kreb’s cycle, and (3) electron transport chain (ETC). In summary, for the cellular respiration of yeast, glucose is consumed and the products are ATP, carbon dioxide, water, and ethanol or lactate.
