Amino acids are the chemical basis of the great diversity of proteins. Amino acids are organic compounds that merge to form proteins. Proteins and amino acids are the building blocks of life. When proteins are broken down or digested, amino acids are left. Amino acids can as well be used as a source of energy by the body.
