What is the replication cycle of a virus

Viral replication is the formation of biological viruses during the infection process in the target host cells. Viruses must first get into the cell before viral replication can occur. From the perspective of the virus, the purpose of viral replication is to allow production and survival of its kind.

After uncoating, replication must occur. This is when a virus uses its host to copy its genome, generate and assemble a protein capsid, and thereby reproduces itself. When a prophage is passively replicated along with its host's genome, we term this the lysogenic cycle.
