The chemoreceptor trigger zone is the area most responsible for the vomiting reflex. This is a part of the medulla, which is in the lower, more base, part of the brainstem. The vomiting center is a large group of axons and receptors that, when stimulated, produce an emetic response and will lead to a person vomiting.

The chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) is an area of the medulla oblongata that accept inputs from blood-borne drugs or hormones, and communicates with other structures in the vomiting centre to initiate vomiting. The CTZ can be find within the area postrema, which is on the floor of the fourth ventricle and the outer part of the blood-brain barrier.
