First you let the cost of each scarf be x. so that it will be easier to solve.

2x=$35

there is left 3x.

3x=$80 - $35

3*=$45

average amount = total amount of the remaining three scarves divided by total number of scarves.

3x=$45

x=$15

therefore, carole can spend an average of $15 per scarf.
