Depending on what level of science you're in, you may or may not be taught that they are indivisible. the truth is that they are. when you split an atom is releases a tremendous amount of energy (atomic bomb). electrons and particles fly everywhere. but atoms are, as far as we know, the smallest units of matter. atoms are comprised of quarks but to our extent of knowledge you can't get smaller than an atom.
