    Acetal is produced when one molecule of aldehyde or ketone (in this reaction propanone) and two molecules of alcohols (in this reaction ethanol) react. Hemiacetal is produced when one molecule of aldehyde or ketone and one molecule of alcohol react. Acetals are stable compared to hemiacetals.
