Answer: An atom does not have a charge because, protons have a + 1 charge and electrons have a - 1 charge. The number of protons is equals the number of electrons so the charges balance out to a neutral charge leaving the atom to not have an overall charge.

An atom has always an equal number of protons and electrons. This is because the positive particles equal out the negative particles and their charge
