Why ethanol is soluble in water while propane is insoluble? The reason why ethanol is a soluble in water while propane is insoluble is basically because it's polar. If the soluble in the water where not to be ethanol, while the propane in insoluble, this wouldn't happen at all whats so ever if it never contained polar.

Your correct answer is "because it contains polar".
