    B. Potential energy from inter-molecular forces

    Explanation:

Molecules in both the liquid and gas phase exhibit vibrational, rotational and translational degrees of freedom i. e. they have kinetic energy of vibration, rotation and translation.

However, molecules in the gas phase move freely and quickly relative to the liquid phase. This is because in the liquid phase molecules experience stronger intermolecular forces of attraction which hold them closer and slow down their motion.
