Aluminum reacts with element x to form a compound with the formula Al2x3. element x exists as diatomic molecules, x2, in the gaseous state at normal temperature and pressure. Element x must be the gas oxygen. At normal conditions, oxygen is in its gaseous state and exist as a diatomic molecule. It accepts 3 electrons from the aluminum while the metal accepts two electrons from the oxygen forming the compound aluminum oxide which has a chemical formula of Al2O3. It has found its application as an adsorbent or a dessicating agent adsorbing moisture to the porous structure of the crystals.
