What does "proper level in society based on merit" mean?

    With the word "merit," it means someone or something is placed on a high pedestal based on the person or thing's attributes, not because of favoritism or any other form of preferential treatment. The person/thing is judged because of its authenticity, and the person/thing is deserving of that reward (proper level in society).
