As cities become more and more developed, and more and more crowded, people are slowly losing their connection with nature. Whereas once you were surrounded by trees and rivers and animals, now people live surrounded by concrete. Of course, many people enjoy this lifestyle that also includes electricity, clean water, the internet, but on the other hand many long to go somewhere and live in the nature similar to Thoreau.
