    Strategy to understand Shakespeare plays:

    Shakespeare used a metrical pattern that consist of lines of un-rhymed iambic pentameter, named blank verse. Most of his plays were composed using this. The following are some strategies to understand Shakespearean plays,

    Read it out loud - Shakespearean plays are generally written for stage, for people to voice out aloud at the pace of the conversation. Focus on punctuation to understand sentences - While reading we have to focus on the punctuation (colons, semicolons, periods and question marks) to get a clear idea on intonation and rhythm. Take a moment to understand allusions - There are plenty of allusions in Shakespearean play. Allusions generally refers to person, events or artistic works indirectly. Whenever we come across an unfamiliar allusion we have to refer online or some reference books for clarity. Keep your eyes open for metaphors - These are also frequently used. Metaphor is the comparison of two dissimilar objects or two different ideas.
