Rudy Francisco uses figurative language so as to explain in very strong words and ideas that being seventeen is not the end of the world but the beginning of something great. He says that popular or not you see that girl you like as ... "a dream in flesh ... "You might think you are not worthy of asking her to go to the Prom and feel ... "a washing machine in your stomach ... "He compares a seventeen year old boy in his senior year to ... " a peacock with no feathers ... "and sometimes to a ... "flat tyre ... ". All these expressions magnify the idea that a seventeen year old boy is insecure, anxious and apprehensive about everything which will disconect him from the world he knows. The world of being or not the captain of the football team, of parties, music, and in some way, freedom. The moment has come to choose a path and to face what it takes to choose that path, as you choose a girl for going with you to the Prom. It is not easy but it has to be done.
