Amaterasu is a sun goddess of the Shinto religion. It was said that her grandson was sent to Earth and became the first emperor of Japan, his line began the divine family of Japanese Emperors.

Amaterasu was given rule over the sky but Susanow cause so much trouble that she fled to the caves. Her disappearance caused darkness and havoc on earth. Plants died and people suffered prompting other gods to bring back Amaterasu to bring peace and prosperity on earth again.
