Basically, the interior of the Earth, like that of the other terrestrial planets, is chemically divided into layers. The Earth has an 1) outer silicate solid crust, 2) a highly viscous mantle, 3) a liquid outer core that is much less viscous than the mantle, and 4) a solid inner core.
