    Mid-level clouds include altocumulus and altostratus.

    The lowest clouds in the atmosphere are stratus, cumulus, and stratocumulus.

    There are regular five types of clouds named as Cumulus, Stratus, Nimbus, Cumulonimbus and Cirrus.

    Characteristics The type of clouds are recognized based on the shape and height in the sky. There are low level clods, mid-level clouds and high-level clouds. Cumulus are puffy clouds (below 6000 feet) that are scattered in the sky. Stratus are near the ground (above 6000 feet and below 20000 feet) that forms fog. Cirrus (above 18000 feet) are thin wispy clouds. Nimbus and cumulonimbus clouds are seen during rain or thunderstorm usually up to 50000 feet.
