The Fall Line separates the Coastal and Piedmont regions in the state of Georgia.

The Piedmont area is at a higher elevation than the Coastal causing the rivers to "fall" into the Coastal region. The Fall Line became an area where trade posts developed because the waters were too rough to be traveled by boats.

Three out of four of those major trade areas among the Fall Line became state capitals of Georgia.
