    Mexico and parts of Central America are prone to earthquakes because they lie on the fault between two tectonic plates

    Because of plate tectonics Southern Mexico and Central American are right at the subduction zone between the North American, Cocos and Caribbean plates. This in turn results on a land area with many volcanoes and prone to earthquakes
