    Asian and African countries attained sovereignty and led many other nations towards independence movement. Many countries were at the ridge of nationalism when United States seceded imperialism and desired to function independently, thus independence was sought. Self-determination became a primary objective of many nations.

    Mohandas Gandhi led India towards independence movement. Jomo Kenyatta led the independence movement against British in Kenya. Nelson Mandela led the apartheid movement and was sentenced twenty years in prison fighting for equality. Algeria protested against the imperialism of France.
