How was the spanish-american war involved in the annexation of Hawaii

This war that occurred in 1998 had ended stains colonial empire in the Western Hemisphere and gave the United States Pacific Power, Thus there was a peace treaty made that forced the Spanish to give over the claims to Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico, and The Philippines to the United states.

During all this conflict the US annexed Hawaii Thus, the war enabled the United States to establish its predominance in the Caribbean region and to pursue its strategic and economic interests in Asia.
