    John Locke was an English philosopher of the Enlightenment that influenced the Founding Fathers and the American Revolution.

    Locke rejected Thomas Hobbes idea that kings rule by divine right, instead, he defended that all were born equal and that in any society people are born with natural rights that are life, liberty, and property and that the government's job was to defend that.

    Locke also defended that revolutions sometimes are an obligation when the rulers don't respect those natural rights.
