Magua was approximately lined up with the French. It was the British he detested. Magua wishes to hurt the British and does as such by rendering his retribution the most ideal way he knows how abducting the Colonel's little girls. Feeling of outrage toward the British for their activities and embarrassment brings a want for requital.
