The Carta Monastery has been first explored and rediscovered by Victor Roth, a local Transylvanian Saxon art historian and archaeologist, in the spring of 1927.

The Carta Monastery is a monastery that has been built during the thirteenth century AD, and it has been built in two stages that are divided by the Mongol invasion of the area in the mid thirteenth century. The first stage of the building has occurred in the first years of the thirteenth century, probably 1205-1206. It has been built by the local population of Saxons in Transylvania.
