Why did some northerns support slavery?

Some Northerners supported slavery because it was their way of life. They needed slaves to work in the fields with little back in return so that they could profit more from their fields. If slavery was abolished then the whole system of the North would collapse.

Because they earned money from cotton plantations which slaves worked on.
