Western resistance to a tax on whiskey.

    Explanation:

In 1790, Alexander Hamilton in an attempt to revive financial stability in the country aimed at introducing an excise tax on whisky to increase tax revenue. The tax bill was passed in 1791 but numerous protests erupted against the bill immediately especially in western parts of the country. It led to the uprising of the the Whisky Rebellion of 1794. Thus, it can be said that the rebellion was a result of western resistance to a tax on whisky by the federal government.
