How did Europeans begin to explore more of the world?

    The Europeans started to explore more of the world in order to search for trade routes. For example, the search for a direct route west from Europe to Asia resulted in Columbus stumbling upon America. The search for easier routes of travel and trade caused the Europeans to discover new lands and civilizations, often unintentionally.
