For what reason does upper Egypt refer to the southern part of Egypt, while lower Egypt refers to the northern part of Egypt?

    Becuase they touch at both ends

    Upper Egypt is higher in altitude than lower Egypt. This explains why the Nile flows north from southern upper Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea in lower Egypt.
