Why do people tend to live near water in particular why is it a good economic decision to live near water

People tend to live near water because, it provides them with fresh water to drink, cook, and bathe. It also is good for transportation and farming because, the water from rivers make richer soil. All this provides a much convinient way to live, making it better on someone economically.
