Why did the American army settle at valley forge

Valley Forge was chosen for many reasons. Here are a few: The British were occupying Philadelphia for the winter. The American Army needed to keep an eye on them and prevent them from foraging in the countryside for food they needed.

Since the British were in Philadelphia, the American Army wanted to keep an eye on them and prevent them from moving to the countryside for food which they needed to live. Also the terrain in Valley Forge was easy to defend.
