While the first cars were made in Germany, it was the United States where they became increasingly popular and quickly managed to change the way the way people lived.

Before the introduction of cars and more specifically the Ford Model T, the most popular form of transportation within the city was using horse-drawn carriages.

Depending on the wealth and status of a person, these could be very cheap or very expensive. An average person could hardly afford a carriage and usually relied on paying a fee to ride.

Transport within cities was mostly through trains.

However, with the introduction of cars, the concept of a personal transportation vehicle completely changed.

Cars were cheaper, easier to maintain, fast and clean. It quickly replaced horse-draw carriages. The idea of wealth, freedom and the American dream was personified by owning a car.
