Where did Washington's troops go after being defeated by Brooklyn?

    Washington's troops stayed in Manhattan for a short while. They then moved up to Harlem Heights. From there, they retreated to White Plains. Next, Washington's army moved across the Hudson River to New Jersey. General Cornwallis pursued them and they retreated to Pennsylvania.
