What was a factor keeping europeans out of interior africa until the late 1800s?

    The wild and unfamiliar terrain of Africa, along with its unpredictable and unknown wildlife were two reasons why Europeans made little headway into Africa's interior. In addition, diseases posed a problems for explorers.
