There were many different causes of the Civil War and even more

reasons as to why each soldier fought.

    1. Election of Abraham Lincoln. We was a conservative republican

    who disagreed with slavery.

    2. The Western states of the US were deciding whether to be a

free state or a slave state. It pushed the issue of slavery into

    the public eyes.

    3. The Southern states felt that their best interest was not

    being sought for by Lincoln.

    4. The South felt that the North was being too aggressive in

    limiting their states rights.

    5. Books such as Uncle Tom's Cabin were being written, reviling

    the horrors of slavery.

    6. Significant men and women such as John Brown, Harriet Tubman,

Sojourner Truth, and Frederick Douglas battled openly about the

    slave issue.

    7. Slavery and States Rights were the two prime causes I can

think of. In addition to that, many fought not to support these

causes, but to find glory, escape their monotonous life, protect

    their country/family, seek adventure.
