Which enlightenment thinker supported the idea that people are naturally cruel, selfish, and hungry for power. therefore need a atber figure to be protected from themselves?

    Thomas Hobbes believed this, because he witnessed the cruelties of the English Civil War. Hobbes thought that any type of government, even tyranny, that was able to protect individual property was effective.
