Why did american's have more leisure time in the 1950s?

Americans had more leisure time in the 1950s because many Americans were working shorter hours during the work week. There was also more vacation time from jobs. Another reason Americans had more leisure time during the 1950s is because there was new time saving technology, such as the washing machine.
