What effect did the Emancipation Proclamation have on both confederate and Union Soldiers?

It effect their morals, for the Northerners it was something that gave them purpose and will for some to fight in these war before that their only goal was keeping the union whole, for the confederates it had effect on morals but in other way the confedarte soldiers went on war to defend the rights of their home states in their opinion after the proclamation they knew that ethical and more moral reason for continue the war is no longer on their side
