Jefferson tried to make his Inauguration look different than that of his predecessors because he wanted to defend favoritism in foreign policies, to stop giving concession to the britishers who are still in war with french.

    Explanation:

When Jefferson came to take the charge of presidentship he did not follow the usual behavior of his predecessors because of some reasons. Before his tenure his predecessors supported favoritism in foreign policies and continued giving concession to the britishers who were not in the way of reconciliation and still continuing war against French.

But Jefferson wanted to stop these things means the favor which was given to the britishers and the favoritism that was followed radically in foreign policies. That's why his appearance in inaugural ceremony was quite different from others.
